About NBC-CAM

The National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM) administers the only national certification program for community association managers. NBC-CAM grants the Certified Manager of Community Associations® (CMCA®) credential to individuals who demonstrate fundamental knowledge and expertise in managing homeowner and condominium associations and cooperatives.

NBC-CAM was created in 1995 by Community Associations Institute as an independent, yet affiliated, nonprofit corporation to develop and administer the national CMCA certification program.

A nine member Board of Commissioners governs NBC-CAM. Six commissioners are certified community association managers and three represent the public’s interests.

NBC-CAM is committed to helping association homeowners protect their investment and quality of life through professional community association management. A community manager performs a wide variety of activities for their clients including: fiscal and budgetary responsibilities, maintenance, contractor and insurance coverage selection, covenants enforcement, and advising boards on operational issues. Through its education and examination requirements, NBC-CAM provides association residents with a level of confidence in the qualifications of the CMCA credentialed manager.

The mission of the certification program is to advance and assure the quality of professional community association management. The goals of the program are:

  • To enhance the professional practice of community association management
  • To identify the body of knowledge necessary in that professional practice
  • To recognize those individuals who have demonstrated a satisfactory understanding of that body of knowledge.
